How long has it been since I last wrote a post on this blog? I’d be afraid to look into the history. Anyway, we had a blogworthy moment tonight so I thought I’d sit down and share.

Bedtime is always interesting in our home, or more accurately, the way Reese chooses to conduct herself after bedtime is always interesting. As she’s rarely tired enough to fall right to sleep at the appointed hour, there’s often a good 20 minutes or so of miscellaneous banging around, wardrobe distressing, and general self-narration. This evening, after a quarter-hour of relative calm, Meg and I were surprised to hear a significant bump, as though Reese had opted for running headlong into her door rather than fall asleep.

I walked down the hall, opened her door, and stuck my head in only to find her lying in bed. She sat up, cocked her head, and looked at me in the way of a puppy who has just spread his meal across every square foot of your home. I said “Hey kiddo… how are you?”

“I was just sleeping here.” She replied. And buried her head in her several blankies.

Sorry to disturb you.

I’m getting better at keeping up with blogging. Ha ha! Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks.

Weekend before last we went to Richmond for a visit. I got to see my friend Beth and her brand-new baby boy, Caleb. We had a very nice morning. We don’t usually get to sit and talk without a million interuptions from our two-year-olds. We only had a half-million interruptions since Reese was with Grandma and Grandpa and Caleb slept through the whole thing. :-) Just kidding. I have fun giving Aiden, her older boy, a toy and reading a book to him.

We also ditched church and went to Louis Ginter Botanical Gardens with Brian’s folks. It was a nice way to kick off spring.

On one of our many, many rainy days Reese and I dropped by Northlake Mall for some indoor playground time.

Reese has also had more fun with her dress-up box.

Reese is also in process of potty training. She’s doing great - I’m just having a hard time getting her to the potty every 20-30 minutes. She’s great at getting the pee-pee to go in and loves wearing her big-girl underpants.

We were the proud recipients of 7 inches of snow on March 2, and we had a lovely snow day. Brian couldn’t get the car out of our street, so he worked from home. We spent the bulk of our day with neighbors. We wish Zane, our 2 year old neighbor didn’t have to go to day care every day!

And dress down…

I tried to get her to sing the ABC’s, but she doesn’t do that on demand. “Twinkle, twinkle” is her favorite, and I don’t know where “Baa, baa black sheep” came from.

We decided to make the trek to the zoo again last week. It’s 2 hours each way, but it’s such a great zoo and it was a nice day (and it was free!) we decided to brave the drive. We had a blast, as usual. I love the zoo.

Reese got bored of the lions (who knows why, they were roaring!!), so she decided to be a monkey. Soon a young guy joined her on the bars, and he was her new BFF. She wanted to show him all her tricks, but he walked off with his girlfriend. Shattered dreams!

Reese was excited about the bamboo forest behind us, so we took some family pictures.

We’ve been trying to get back to normal life over the past week. Last Sunday Courtney came to visit overnight, which was super fun for Brian and me and pretty fun for Reese. Kids can’t help but love Courtney, but Reese was still really grouchy from her sleep loss over the holidays.

Reese also spent a quality half hour in the kitchen sink. She loves being on the counters, and she recently discovered that she can turn on the water by herself. I gave in and let her fill the sink and take her clothes off. I filled the sink a little too full, and it overflowed. It didn’t matter, though, she loved it.

When Nana and Grandpa Kevin came they gave Reese her Christmas presents: one of them was a fun dress-up box. Reese loves it:

This is the bag we store the marble game she got for her birthday - she does love the marble game, but as you can see, she also enjoys the bag.

We celebrated Reese’s birthday with Brian’s family during Christmas weekend, and had a birthday party for her here on the actual day. Here’s Richmond:
