July 2007

When Brian and I moved here, we had a very happy surprise that our next door neighbors have a baby who’s about 6 weeks older than Reese! Unfortunately, since we have been settling in and they both work, we’ve seen very little of each other. This last week I’ve seen more of Kim and her son, Zane because she had an appendectomy. Unhappy for her, happy for me. I’ve enjoyed being able to have quick chats with someone my own age during the day. Her little boy is very cute and very sweet. I invited them over for an afternoon snack and playtime on Friday, and we had a nice visit.

Babies at this age don’t really play with each other, so while this little side-hug was adorable, it was more of them grabbing on to each other as an aid to movement.

Look at those gorgeous blue eyes!

Reese started doing these hilarious push-ups while Zane and Kim were here. Babies can do the most amazing things, can’t they?!

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. We’ve had a lot going on over the past two weeks. My mom came into town to visit, and we had a lot of fun. Then on the last day of her visit, I got the stomach flu! Yuck! I’m just glad she was here to help me with the baby while I was sick because Brian was gone (and sick too). Lastly, Brian and I spent most of the night on Sunday and most of the morning on Monday reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. If you are reading this and I have not yet badgered you to read the series, you should. It’s amazing and wonderful.

Here they are at the airport. Reese loved my mom right away (she hadn’t seen her since she was 2 weeks old). My mom is really great with babies - very fun and patient.

We also got a new high chair, which I totally love. I think it’s so pretty. My mom helped me feel her solids, since up until 2 days ago it was unendingly frustrating. Reese finally learned how to swallow them, so things are much better now.

Believe it or not, this was a success! There was less banana on her bib than had been in the bowl. She’s much better now - she only blows raspberries when she’s trying to make me smile or go away.

We went hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains just north or Asheville. It’s so beautiful out there.

Another new development. Reese is trying like crazy to crawl! She pulls her knees up all the time and rocks back and forth. I think her arms need to get stronger before she can really crawl, so for now she’s just building muscles!

So cute!

Before she left my mom and I bought a bunch of new toys for Reese because all she had was her newborn stuff. I’m excited to watch her figure out how all of them work.

Reese and I went down to Hilton Head with Courtney, Gina, and Kate and had a lot of fun. Reese was not a fan of sitting on the beach, but she loved swimming, shopping, and hanging out with the girls.

This was our beach preparation. I took Reese out in the backyard on a towel and she lasted about 4 minutes.

Here she is modeling her new beach hat.

What do you think they’re mad at?
