OB Visits

Well, our list of names has just been cut in half, because we know it’s a girl! After a lengthy and fascinating ultrasound appointment, we found out that we’ll be having a daughter come December. The ultrasound was really cool, because it was a full anatomy scan. We got to see the brain, eyes, nose, mouth, stomach, kidneys, heart, and the bones of the arms, hands, legs, feet, spine, and ribs. It was super cool. The picture above is the best profile shot we could get, with a little bit of her hand in there as well. How fun - we can say “her” now!

You know those amazing pacemakers that can be adjusted over the phone? They need to develop something similar for checking your baby’s heart rate.

We arrived at our doctor’s office at 4:55 PM this afternoon, for a 5:00 check-up appointment. At 5:25, Meg was weighed in, made her donation to the golden liquid collection, and we were shown to our room. After 40 minutes of listening to a startling amount of commotion outside our door, we still had not been seen. Then, all was eerily quiet. I wondered if they had closed up shop and forgotten us. I peeked my head out, only to see Meg’s doctor approaching our door, happily whistling the tune of “If I Only Had a Brain” from the Wizard of Oz.

Thirty seconds later, he was done with Meg’s check up, and at 6:10, we were out the door. There has got to be a better way.

Well, we had our second visit to Dr. Castelli today, and with the data he received from our ultrasound back in May, he pushed Meg’s due date up a couple of days. So now, it’s officially set at December 28th instead of the 30th. I’ve updated the “Due Date Countdown” clock accordingly, but the stupid thing will still be wrong by two hours. Killing me. Killing me.

Well, we had our first ultrasound appointment today, and it confirmed that Meg’s due date is December 30th. It was really cool, we got to see and hear the baby’s heartbeat. That was totally amazing. Anyway, for purposes of orientation, the large black shape that you see is the amniotic sac, and the whitish peanut-shaped part is the baby! The circular shape you see to the right is the yolk, which will disappear in the next few weeks.
